After two seasons, there's much to be said about the Yamaha SX600R... But it can for the most part be summed up in two words... "Slot-Car". This sled flat out handles.... it goes exactly where you put it, doesn't lift a ski, doesn't push a bit... It's performance in the moguls is good, although the sled definitely handles the large bumps much better than the small to mids. The ride is noticably less plush than my previous 1997 V-Max SX600, probably because the damping is tuned for the hard hitters. On "chatter bumps" I must admit the ride could be downright painful at times (not that really any sled in the class makes them exactly disappear...) The 600 triple is smooth, and has a sweet, almost musical growl. The motor shines in the when you're "in the pipe", pulling strong at the mid to high RPMs. The low-end definitely lacks the "kick" inherent to the MXZ, but in a flat out drag the 600's all seem to stick together anyway. It would be nice to have a little more low end "punch" for launching, but a triple is what a triple is... At the pump, I always seemed to be adding a gallon or so more per 6-8 gal fill-up than my comrades' MXZ600s and ZR600s. (On this year's 1000 mile U.P. trip I'd guess I bought about an extra tank-full of gas than the Ski-doos...) All and all, I love this sled.
